DEANE L. DRESBACK, Winterset

October 14, 1928 - August 22, 2016

Deane L. Dresback, 87, of Winterset, died Monday, August 22, 2016 at West Bridge Care and Rehab in Winterset.

A visitation will be held from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, August 26 at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset, where family will be present to receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 27 at the funeral home, and burial with military honors to follow in the Winterset Cemetery.

Memorials to the Winterset Husky Booster Club and/or Hospice (HCI Care Services).

Deane Leroy Dresback was born October 14, 1928 in Bagley, Iowa, the son of Emmett and Pearl (Myers) Dresback. He graduated from Bagley High School in 1946 and later served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict where he received a Bronze Star. Following his service, he served with the Iowa National Guard for 18 years. He married Shirley Ogren on October 25, 1952 in Jefferson, Iowa and to this union five children were born, Bob, Rick, Terri, Barb and Gary.

During his working career, Deane worked as a manager for JC Penny, an electrician for Charlie Martens, groundskeeper for the Winterset City Park, and he also worked at Farm & Home in Winterset. Deane was an avid Winterset Husky fan, announced at football and softball games and was awarded the Fan of the Year. He also received the President’s Award from the Madison County Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Winterset Husky Booster Club and American Legion. He enjoyed golfing, was active in his poker club and was president of the Winterset Chamber when the first Covered Bridge Festival was held in 1970. He continued to be involved with the festival for 40 plus years.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Shirley; his children, Bob Dresback of Ankeny, Rick (Mindy) Dresback of Creston, Terri (Craig) Johnson of Nerstrand, MN, Barb (John) DeJoode of New Virginia, and Gary (Amy) Dresback of Woodward; 17 grandchildren, Marinee (Tim) Fulmer, Ryan (Kym) Dresback, Madeline Hart, Richard C. (Winter) Dresback, Brian T. Dresback, Stacey (Josh) Ray, Tammi (Cory) Lathum, Jennifer (Scotty) Roberts, Chase (Danielle) Waters, Andrew Waters, Ryan (Emily) DeJoode, Kari (Colton) DeJoode, Tracy (George) Hemphill, Marcus (Cassie) Johnson, Randall (Holly) Johnson, Kayley Dresback and Makenzie Dresback; 16 great grandchildren, Dylan Dresback; Makenna, Edwin, Lehdyn and Kordy Dresback; Hayden and Tanner Ray; Kiersten and Luke Lathum; Avery Roberts; Skylar Waters; Carter DeJoode; Connor DeJoode; Chandler and Hopkins Hemphill; Allison and Abbigail Johnson; many nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends.

Deane was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Arlene (Myron Blaine) (Ray) Cuddy, Melva Dresback, LaNetta (Paul) Clouse, Marcella (Fred) Carrick, and Elwin (Ruth) Dresback; a grandson, Jeremy Johnson and great grandsons, Cade and Connor Ray.
