Nancy A. Blakeslee, 72, of Afton, died Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at her home, northeast of Afton.

Celebration of Life Services will be 7:00 p.m. Saturday at Powers Funeral Home 612 N. Dodge in Afton. Pastor William Richardson will officiate.

Open visitation will be from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. Saturday with family receiving friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Memorials are to be determined.

Nancy Ann Blakeslee was born on June 16, 1943 in Carthage, Mo., a daughter to Charles and Anita Toomer. Nancy was educated in Des Moines and graduated from Lincoln High School in Des Moines with the class of 1960.

On June 4, 1981, Nancy was united in marriage to Charles Michael Blakeslee in Des Moines, Ia. They moved to a farm in Cummings and in 1991, they purchased their current farm north of Afton, where they raised horses.

Nancy volunteered for Matura for a total of 32 years. She spent four of those years in Winterset then the next 28 in Creston and officially retired in 2013.

Nancy is survived by her family Chuck Blakeslee and Breanna Doman both of Afton. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, John and Charlie Toomer.
