Elva L. Stroeber, Dallas Center

Elva L. Stroeber, 95, passed away May 3, 2016 at Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 9 at Iles Brandt Chapel in Dallas Center with interment following at Winterset Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

She is survived by her children, Ed L. Stroeber and Janet Shelby; 8 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and 8 great great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Lillian (Lischer)Forsyth; her husband, Edward W. Stroeber; and her son, Ray D.
Stroeber.

Memorials may be directed to Spurgeon Manor in Elva's name.

Elva was born in Griswold, Iowa on September 28, 1920 to parents Leon and Lillian (Lischer) Forsyth. She was raised in Cass and Adair counties, and later moved to Madison county and graduated from Winterset High School in 1939.

She was united in marriage to Edward W. Stroeber in June, 1940, and to this union were born three children, Ed L., Ray D., and Janet L.

Elva enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, cooking, and manicuring her lawn (as told by her neighbors). She was a talented woodworker, and found much joy being productive in her woodworking shop. The family later moved to Dallas Center, where they ran a Conoco gas station. Elva also worked at General United Insurance Company, retiring after 20 years of service.

She is survived by her children, Ed L. Stroeber and Janet Shelby; 8 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and 8 great great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Lillian (Lischer) Forsyth; her husband, Edward W. Stroeber; and her son, Ray D. Stroeber.

Memorials may be directed to Spurgeon Manor in Elva's name.
