DORIS SORENSEN

Doris Maxine Cummins Sorensen was born September 17, 1923 on a farm near Peru, Iowa. Her parents were Frank and Vern Cummins. On January 27, 1957, she married Donald Carl Sorensen at The First Christian Church in Winterset, Iowa.

Doris attended country and Peru school thru 9th grade. In the fall of 1939, her family moved to Winterset where Doris graduated from Winterset High School in 1942.

She clerked several places in town, then moved to Des Moines in 1951. There she worked in the Bond Department at Hawkeye Security Insurance Company. This is where she met Don Sorensen. After their marriage they lived in Des Moines, Adel, and Bentonville, Arkansas before settling down in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1974. Don passed away on January 1, 1999 and Doris passed away on May 5, 2016.

Doris stayed busy doing photography, reading, and copying family history.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Russell Comp; and brother and sister-in-law, George and Blanche Cummins. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, May 14, 2016, at The First Christian Church in Winterset with Rev. Sue Blader officiating. Friends may call 1 hour before service time to visit with family. Burial of her cremains will be in the Winterset Cemetery.

McCalley-Collins Funeral Home in Winterset is in charge of arrangements.
