Personal Items From Van Meter

Ernest Leroy Coe of Chicago Ill. died Tuesday, March 4th, and the body was brought here for burial. The funeral was held at 11 o’clock Thursday forenoon at the Fairview Methodist church conducted by the Rev. Floyd Newbrough, the pastor of the Methodist church in Van Meter. Burial was made in the Fairview cemetery.

Ernest Leroy Coe, the son of Leroy B. and Ella R. Coe, was born at Winterset on Dec. 1, 1876. He grew to young manhood on a farm in the Fairview neighborhood. He graduated from the DeSoto high school and from Simpson college at Indianola. He then entered the teaching profession and was a superintendent of schools in various places in Iowa and Oregon. About 14 years ago he moved to Chicago where he had since been employed in the U. S. Treasury office. He passed away after an illness of only one day from a heart attack.

He is survived by a daughter and a son, Gloria Mae and Douglas Leroy Coe of Barstow, Calif, a brother Otto C. of Des Moines, a sister, Mrs. E. B. Long of Sac City, and three nieces and one nephew, Mrs. E. M. Sutton of Oskaloosa, Margaret and Dorothy Long of Sac City and Robert E. Long of Fort Des Moines. Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Long and Mr. and Mrs. Otto C. Coe and the nieces and nephew were here for the funeral.
