FORMER RESIDENT IS FLOOD VICTIM

A former Winterset resident, James Armstrong, 52 of Des Moines, and his son-in-law, Clair McNeil, also of that community were the only known drowning victims in the Des Moines flood area last week.

They were drowned Wednesday June 25, when an ox cart in which they were fleeing the flood was swept from a road. The bodies were not recovered until last Saturday.

Mr. Armstrong lived for many years in Winterset as a young man. He was married here to a Winterset girl, the former Amy Preston. They were the parents of four daughters and one son.

He was a brother of Mrs. Frank Brown of Winterset. He also leaves another sister, Mrs. Mary E. Tracy of Glendale, Calif., and a brother, J. A. Armstrong of Topeka, Kan.

Funeral services and burial were held in Des Moines Sunday.
