Wilbur N. ("Bill") Bump passed away on March 24, 2016 at his home in New Orleans, Louisiana at the age of 86.
Wilbur N. Bump was born on July 12, 1929 in Peoria, Illinois. After graduating from Davenport Central high school in 1947, he began his studies at the University of Iowa, where he was a member of Delta Upsilon fraternity. His studies were interrupted by his service in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. While stationed in Biloxi, Mississippi he met and shortly thereafter married Elaine Bonneval of New Orleans, Louisiana in 1951. After the completion of his military service, he returned to the University of Iowa with Elaine, where he received his Bachelor's of Science in Commerce, followed by a Juris Doctor in 1958.
After receiving his law degree, he served as an assistant city attorney and city prosecutor for the City of Des Moines, followed by an appointment to the Iowa Attorney General's staff as Solicitor General where he served for 5 years. Thereafter he maintained a private law practice in Des Moines until his retirement in 1991.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Elaine, his three sons, William and his wife Kelly of Panora, Jeffrey and his wife Karen of Panora, Steven and his wife Sue of West Des Moines, and 9 grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be held in New Orleans, Louisiana at a later date.
________________________Transcriber's Note: Wilbur Bump purchased farm land in Sec. 24, Madison Twp. of Madison County on Dec. 20, 1971 and had a new home constructed. This land remained in his name until sold in January 1993.
