J. D. WHITENACK DIES

Peace Comes to Long Sufferer - Funeral Held Thursday

After a long and serious illness, J. D. Whitenack succumbed at his home just west of the city at one thirty o'clock Tuesday, March 26, 1918. Mr. Whitenack had been in declining health for the past year, but at times there was evidence of his improvement which buoyed up his family in the hope of his ultimate recovery. A few months ago he suffered a broken hip while trying to rally from two operations. Complications set in and the end came as above stated.

Josephus D. Whitenack was born October 12, 1853, in Terre Haute, Ind., and a year later came with his parents settling near Winterset, Madison county, Iowa. He grew to manhood in that community and on September 28, 1876, he was united in marriage to Miss Enfield Brown. In 1882 the family moved to Buena Vista county, settling on a farm in Scott township where they lived until they moved to this city nearly three years ago.

To Mr. and Mrs. Whitenack were born seven children, one having died in infancy. Besides the wife, he is survived by the following children: Mrs. Daisy Bell of Burlington, Kans.; R. F. Whitenack of Storm Lake, Mrs. Alie James of Wagner, S. D.; Mrs. Lenna Wagner, Mrs. Kate Edwards, Mrs. Fra Milton and Mrs. Mabel Witter, all of Storm Lake. He leave also seventeen grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Anna Myers and Mrs. Mary Hayes, both of Earlham, who were present at the last rites.

Mr. Whitenack is held in most kindly memory by his neighbors of long standing in Scott township all of whom held him in the very highest regard. He lived an upright, useful, industrious life and died with a full measure of the confidence and esteem of his fellowmen and the world has lost through his demise.

The funeral services were held at the Methodist Episcopal church on Thursday afternoon, conducted by Rev. W. T. Macdonald, D. D. The remains were laid to rest in the Storm Lake cemetery.
