Alfred F. Harpole, mayor of Macksburg, and a widely known farmer of Madison county, died at his home in Macksburg last Thursday. He was 64 years of age.

Mr. Harpole was the son of Alfred and Jane Harpole, and was born Nov. 20, 1879, at Colfax, in McLean county, Illinois. As a young man he came with his parents to Madison county, which had since been his home.

On June 8, 1904, he was married to Miss Flora M. Welty. They were the parents of five children, all of whom survive. The wife and mother preceded him in death.

Most of Mr. Harpole's active years were spent on a farm in Webster township. In recent years, his home had been at Macksburg. He was a member of the Oak Grove Evangelical church.

He is survived by his five children, Corp. Arch Harpole of Kellogg Field, Mich., Alfred Harpole Jr., of Glenwood, Haymond Harpole of Baltimore, Md., Mrs. Jane Mae Jessup of Butler, Mo., and Mrs. Velma Thomas of Macksburg; three grandsons; a brother, Gillette Harpole of Patterson, and two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Benson of Dexter and Mrs. Pearl Stauffer of Hymer, Kan.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday from the Macksburg Methodist church, in charge of the Rev. J.E. Englund.

Burial was made in the Moon cemetery.
