Mrs. Herman E. Marquardt, well known Jefferson township and Madison county resident died at her home early Tuesday morning, Feb. 23rd. Mrs Marquardt, who was 79 years of age, had been extremely active in her home, until her health started to fail a few weeks ago, and complications arose causing her death. She had lived on the same farm for 57 years, and since the death of her husband, her son Alfred has resided with her.

The deceased was the former Katie Storck, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Storck. She was born in Clayton county, Iowa, June 6, 1863. The family later lived in Delaware county and later in Nebraska, but they came to Madison county in 1884, and this county had since been her home. Here she was married to Herman E. Marquardt March 23, 1886, and they moved to the farm where she has since resided. They were the parents of four sons: David, Oscar, George, and Alfred Marquardt, all of Jefferson township.

Funeral services for Mrs. Marquardt will be held Friday afternoon, Feb. 26th at the Jefferson township Lutheran church. The pastor, the Rev. C. Lilie will have charge of the services and burial will be made in the church cemetery.

KATIE MARQUARDT DIED FEBRUARY 23

Katy Marquardt, age 79, died Tuesday morning, February 23, at her home in Jefferson township, after a month’s illness. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at the Lutheran church in Jefferson township. Rev. C. Lilie will conduct the service and interment will be in the Lutheran cemetery.

Katie Marquardt, daughter of Carl and Eliza Storck, was born in Clayton county, Iowa, June 6, 1863. Later she moved with her parents to Delaware county. She then homesteaded by herself on a claim in Nebraska, and in 1886 she proved this claim. She moved to Jefferson township, Madison county in 1886, and later traded her homestead in Nebraska for land in Iowa.

She was united to H. E. Marquardt in marriage on March 23, 1886. Five boys and one girl were born to this union. Two children died in infancy. Her husband preceded her in death, October 1935.

She is survived by four sons, David, Oscar, George and Alfred Marquardt, all of whom live in Jefferson township; four grandchildren, and other relatives.
