Peter N. Barker, well known Macksburg resident, died at the Winterset hospital Saturday morning, Jan. 2, after an extended illness. Mr. Barker, who was 74 years old, was a son of Mr. and Mrs. O.W. Barker, pioneer settlers of Grand River township. He was raised on a farm near Macksburg and was engaged in farming as long as his health would permit.

The deceased, a son of Orlando W. and Lucy Kivett Barker, was born in Grand River township Oct. 10, 1868. He attended the district school and high school of Macksburg. On the Fourth of July, 1897, he was married to Miss Flora Garrett, a daughter of Charles R. Garrett.

After the death of his wife, he moved to Macksburg and lived with his sister, Miss Betty Barker

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Charles Thomas of California and two sisters, Miss Betty, and Mrs. Ollie Walker of Chugwater, Wyo. His daughter was unable to come from California because of travel conditions.

The Rev. Mr. Walls conducted his funeral services in Macksburg Tuesday afternoon, and burial was made in he Moon cemetery.
