He went on to receive his BS Degree in Business from Northeast Missouri State University and received his MA Degree from the University of Iowa. His marriage to Janice Kay Montgomery took place at the Kirksville Christian Church in Kirksville, MO on May 20, 1962 and to this union two sons were born.

Allen loved the outdoors and hunted turkey and deer. He enjoyed taking care of his lawn and working on his acreage, where he planted and tended to hundreds of trees.
