BRENT PORT, MARSHALLTOWN

Brent Port, 61, of Marshalltown died Sunday, Jan. 3, 2016, following a battle with cancer, surrounded by family and friends at home.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 7, at 10 a.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, with the burial to be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Maquoketa, Iowa, at 3 p.m. There will be a luncheon immediately following the funeral services. Public visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. today (Wednesday, Jan. 6) at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Brent Douglas Port was born on Aug. 18, 1954, in Estherville, Iowa, to William L. Port and Betty Jacobs. Brent graduated from Estherville High School in 1972. On May 24, 1975, Brent was united in marriage to Yvonne Koontz in Maquoketa; they resided in Winterset and later Marshalltown. Brent had been a Land Surveyor with CGA. He was a proud member of the NRA and the Surveyors Association. He volunteered for Marshall County Conservation as well as Project Aware and the Boy Scouts.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Port; daughter, Jodi; step father, Bob Binning; and his grandparents.

He is survived by his wife, Yvonne; children: Heather (Nathan) Young of Iowa City and Amber (Gene) Port Thompson of Iowa City; mother: Betty Binning; five grandchildren; siblings: Sue, Sally, Bill, Pam and Penny; and many other family members and friends.
