Valerie JoAnn MacDonald Sloan, daughter of Richard MacDonald and Bette (Pelz) VanGundy was born on July 20, 1960 in Ames, Iowa and passed from this life on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at Taylor House Hospice at 55 years of age.
Valerie was a lifetime resident of Truro and received her education at Interstate 35 High School. She wed Kevin Sturtz on July 20, 1979. Their union produced three children. She was united in marriage to Jason Sloan on June 21, 1998 at Truro United Methodist Church.
She enjoyed motorcycle riding, antiques, playing cards and games. Her children and grandchildren were the joy of her heart as were all youth in her community. She was a member of the Truro Betterment Committee and the Truro United Methodist Church.
Those relatives who preceded Valerie in death are her second father, Jim VanGundy; her nephew, Austin Wonderlich; and her grandparents.
Valerie leaves to cherish her memory; husband, Jason Sloan of Truro, IA; father, Richard MacDonald of Eden Prairie, MN; mother, Bette VanGundy of Rockwell City, IA; two daughters, Traci (John) Gardner of Broken Arrow, OK, and Jodi (Levi) Garner of New Virginia, IA; a son, Lane (Emily) Sturtz of Truro, IA; six grandchildren, Olivia and Jay Gardner, Remy and Bodey Sturtz, Cannon and Franklyn Garner; 5 sisters; 1 brother; several nieces and nephews; as well as other relatives and many friends.
Memorial may be directed to her family for a fitting dedication to her community.
