RONALD LEE SOBEK - Winterset – formerly Osceola

August 25, 1945 - December 1, 2015

Ron Sobek, 70 passed away Monday, December 1, 2015 at Kavanagh House, Des Moines, IA. Ron was born August 25, 1945 in Belmond, IA to Leonard and Lavonne (Hasty) Sobek. He graduated from Kanawha High School, Kanawha, IA in 1963.

Ron was a member of the Iowa National Guard, Eagle Grove, IA from 1964 to 1970. Ron worked for Ziegler CAT for 43 years of which 37 years were spent as a Field Service mechanic repairing large Caterpiller construction equipment for customers throughout Iowa. He also spent 3 years as an in-house mechanic and 3 years in the Tool Room. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his daughters and grandsons.

Ron is survived by his daughters Wendy Jo Sobek and Renee (husband Paul) Havran and grandson Drew Sobek and granddaughter Devann Horras , Elisha (Paul) McCoy and Taylor Havran and great-granddaughter Kendel Sobek, brothers Larry (wife Della) Sobek and Rick (wife Gloria) Sobek and six nieces and nephews. Ron is also survived by Patricia Sobek Nordaker mother of step-sons Gary and John Sobek and step-daughter Julie Archer and eleven step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren. Ron was preceded in death by his father and mother and step-son Greg Sobek.

According to Ron’s wishes, his remains will be cremated and interred at a later date in the Amsterdam Cemetery, Kanawha, IA.

A memorial service will be held December 12 in Urbandale, Iowa at the Living History Farms Wm. G. Murray Conference Center. Pastor Dwayne Henrichs will officiate. Visitation for friends and family will follow the service. Access to the Conference Center is through Gate 4 from Douglas Ave. west of the Douglas-I80/I35 interchange.
