Marvin Willard Barnett, son of Willard and Mabel Barnett was born June 21, 1929. He departed this life on April 11th at the age of 26 years, nine months, and 20 days.

Marvin’s death came as a great shock to his relatives, friends, and the community.

Although Marvin had suffered intermittent heart attacks for several years, one of them finally took his life.

On December 14, 1951, Marvin was united in marriage with Margaret Stanley, daughter of Ralph and Delma Stanley of Earlham. To this union were born two children, Richard Marvin, age two and Debra Sue, age one. Marvin is survived by his loving wife and children, his parents, three brothers, Bob of Newton; Harold and Darwin and one sister, Sharon all at home. Two grandmothers, Mrs. Effie Barnett of Earlham, and Mrs. Daisy Hutzell of Adel and also a host of relatives and friends.

Marvin was a birthright member of the Bear Creek Friends church. At the age of 17, during a series of special meetings, he knelt at the altar of prayer, and confessed his faith in his Heavenly Father.

Marvin was born on the Bert Barnett farm north of Earlham in the Bear Creek neighborhood. His death came on this same farm which he has been operating for the past year as a renter.

He attended school at Linden until his Sophomore year, at which time he moved to Earlham with his parents where he graduated in 1947.

Marvin had a sort of genius for making friends. He liked all people without prejudice or discrimination, and all people liked him. Such brotherly love, stemming from love of and trust in the Heavenly Father, gave him the stamp of a true Christian. No wife and children could receive a greater inheritance, and no parents a finer tribute. He was a farmer in practice and at heart.

Close to his love of people came his love of his dogs and horses, and many of his leisure activities included them. Beyond his occupation with farming, he was an assistant rural mail carrier at Earlham and worked for the United Food Market in Adel during the winter months.
