Thursday, June 9, 1955Myrtle Thomas Died At Oskaloosa
Myrtle Wilcox Thomas passed away early Saturday morning, June 4, 1955, at Oskaloosa, after a long illness.
She grew up in Oskaloosa but upon her marriage to Ernest Thomas she came with him to Earlham. They lived on the farm about two miles east of town where the Evans Lorimor’s now live.
Following her husband’s death in 1942 she returned to Oskaloosa to be near her relatives. She lived in a cozy apartment belonging to her brother, Dr. Wilcox, which she shared with a sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. S. V. Wallings, who cared for her during her long illness.
During the years she lived in the Earlham community she was a member of Earlham Friends Meeting, but after going to Oskaloosa to make her home she transferred her membership to the Central Methodist church there.
Funeral services were held at the Wilcox Funeral home in Oskaloosa, Monday afternoon, June 6, 1955, with her pastor, the Rev. W. N. Scheurmann, in charge. Burial was in the Forrest cemetery at Oskaloosa.
Those from Earlham attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Thomas, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Marks, Harry and Gladstone Foster, Lois Hoskins and Mrs. Phillip Duff. Before the Earlham people returned home, Dr. and Mrs. Wilcox served them coffee.
