Obituary

Dee Clark Bales, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Bales, was born in Lewis, Cass county, Iowa, March 28th, 1882, and died in Kansas City, February 9th, 1905, of pneumonia, after an illness of but a few days. He graduated from the Cumberland High School at the age of fifteen, and was a favorite among the teachers and classmates. He was a young man of good habits, sober, steady and industrious, and his intellectual brilliancy and energy were more than ordinary. In his nature he was lovable and affectionate and was held most dear by those of his family whom he left behind.

The funeral was held from the residence of Mr. J. M. Hobson, on Tuesday, the services being conducted by Rev. R. W. Matheny. The service was beautiful, “Saved by Grace,” and “Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me,” the favorite hymns of the deceased, were sung by the quartet. He leaves a father, mother and two sisters to mourn his loss.

There was present at the funeral but one sister, Mrs. Rosvall, of Earlham, the other members of the family being in California and not being able to attend on account of the serious condition of the father’s health.

The body was brought from Kansas City via Des Moines and Earlham, to Winterset last Monday. The hearts of all friends go out to the mourners of the stricken family who mourn the loss of him they loved so well.
