April 30, 1915 - November 3, 2015

Jack Vierling, 100, of Winterset, died Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at West Bridge Care and Rehab in Winterset.

A visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m., Friday, November 5, 2015 at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., following the visitation on Friday afternoon. Burial will be in the Union Chapel Cemetery, near St. Charles. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Winterset and/or the West Bridge Activity Fund. Jack Truman Vierling was born April 30, 1915, the son of Ernest and Maude (Campbell) Vierling. He was raised on what would become a Century Farm. He attended Winterset High School and served in the United States Army during WWII, serving in Europe during the Battle of the Bulge.

Jack farmed in Madison County and owned and operated the Vierling Egg Company. He belonged to the First United Methodist Church of Winterset and was a charter member of VFW Post 8142. Jack loved his old Packard, and entered it into many car shows, placing first several times. He also enjoyed being chauffer for many occasions. Jack loved to dance and hosted many barn dances. He liked to travel with family and enjoyed the company of numerous friends.

Jack is survived by his children, Kathy (Tom) Dix of Fairway, KS and Dixie (Lynn) Holt of Winterset; five grandchildren, Chris Hamilton, Ben Holt, Amanda (Josh) Potter, Athena (Brandon) Robinson, and Lavonia (Al) Frugoni; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lilly; daughter, Connie; son, J.B.; and brothers, Fred, Clarence and Gene Vierling.
