Gerald Wesley Hogue, a young man of the Peru neighborhood committed suicide at Des Moines on Wednesday of last week by shooting himself with a shotgun.

No reason was known here for the act except that the young man had been extremely anxious to join the navy, and felt it very keenly when he was unable to do so.

Mr. Hogue was 26 years old at the time of his death. He was born October 8, 1916, south of Peru, the son of Clyde and Susanna Hogue. In 1917, the family moved to Peru, where he spent the rest of his life, although he had been working some in Des Moines recently.

He had been a member of the Methodist church of Peru since 1930.

He is survived by his parents; a sister, Mrs Yvonne White of Peru; and two brothers, Forest White of the U.S. Navy and Marlin White of Peru.

Funeral services were held last Friday from the Peru Methodist church, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. Francis B. Harris. Burial was made in the Peru cemetery.
