March 1920James R. Rodman was born in Sullivan County, Illinois, January 7, 1837, and departed this life at this home at Tabor, Iowa, March 21, 1920, aged 83 years, 2 months and 14 days.
He was united in marriage with Miss Catherine Milligan, October 30, 1857, who passed into the spirit world March 14, 1908. To this union were born eight children, two boys and one girl proceeded him to the spirit world.
The living are: Mrs. Mary Boyd, Omaha, Nebraska; Mrs. Lizzie Long, Hay Springs, Nebraska; Mrs. Lona Utteback, Earlham, Iowa, Mrs. Ella Shaw, Glenwood, Iowa, and Miss Doris Rodman, of Tabor, Iowa.
Mr. Rodman came to Mills county March 10, 1867, he was an energetic and prosperous farmer much loved by his many friends he leaves to mourn his loss five children, eighteen grandchildren, and thirty great-grandchildren.
He was united with the M. E. Church at Fairview in the fall of ’76. His love of God in Jesus Christ our Lord was the great neutralizing force in his life that made him so friendly and good and considerate of others, and this makes the grief of the children bearable.
