September 1948Charles Kale, well known young business man of Truro, died at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines, Saturday, September 25, on his thirty-fourth birthday. He had been in failing health for several months with a lung ailment.
Mr. Kale was a life-long resident of Truro. The son of C. C. Kale, he was born and reared in that community, and graduated from the Truro high school. He attended the State University of Iowa, at Iowa City for two years, and then attended Iowa Wesleyan college at Mr. Pleasant, where he received his degree. In 1938 he went into the mercantile business in Truro with his father.
Three years later he enlisted in the U. S. armed forces, serving four and one-half years during the war. He was married Feb. 14, 1944, to Betty Huffstodt. They were the parents of one daughter, Mona Lynn. In addition to the wife and daughter, he leaves his father and step-mother, and a brother, Jack Kale. Funeral services were held Monday from the Kale Funeral home at Truro, in charge of the Rev. V. R. Willey of Truro, assisted by the Rev. Frederick Cooper of Des Moines. Burial was made in the Young cemetery. (notation on clipping says 25 September 1948)
