Services will be 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 4th at Union Park United Methodist Church, 2305 E 12th Street in Des Moines, Iowa with burial at Oakwood Cemetery in Pleasant Hill, Iowa.

Richard ("Rich") Wayne Cameron, son of Charles Loring Cameron and Nellie Margaret Patton Cameron, was born in Winterset, Iowa, on March 15, 1933. His family moved to the family farm in Macksburg, IA in 1938. Upon graduation from Macksburg High School in 1952, he was drafted by the U.S. Army. Before his honorable discharge in February 1955, Rich served two years in the Korean War. Rich never met a stranger. He was quick with a smile and a kind word. His humble attitude and ability to talk with anyone made him a true and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

Rich married his childhood sweetheart, Judith ("Judy") Wood, on June 17, 1956 in Macksburg, Iowa. The two were to celebrate their 59th wedding anniversary on June 17th of this year. Rich and Judy were blessed with four children, Dennis, Denise, Diane and Dawn. The family enjoyed many wonderful activities together, including cross country vacations in their pop-up tent trailer and boating at the Lake of the Ozarks and Table Rock Lake.

Upon marrying, Rich and Judy moved to Des Moines in 1956 to begin their new life together. They resided in their family home on the East Side of Des Moines for more than fifty years, prior to moving to their new home in Grimes, Iowa in the fall of 2011 to be closer to various family members. For nearly forty years Richard was the owner and operator of Sun Rich Dairy Distributorship.

Service to others was Rich's mission in life. He enjoyed coaching youth athletic teams, being an active blood donor and volunteering with LifeServe Blood Center of Iowa. He was a strong booster of East High School in Des Moines, Iowa, and attended hundreds of sporting events to watch his children play. As his children grew and attended Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, Rich became an avid Cyclone Fan. He was often seen sporting ISU gear and cheering for his beloved team. Attending the various school and recreational activities of his grandchildren was also a favorite pastime for Grandpa Rich. Rich and Judy enjoyed many travel experiences with their sisters and their husbands as well as with good friends.

Faith was always an important part of Rich's life. He was a long-time member of Union Park United Methodist Church in Des Moines. His faith was further exemplified as he battled various health issues these past four years. He was an inspiration to everyone and approached life with grace, wit and humor.

Rich is survived by his loving wife, Judy Cameron of Grimes, Iowa and his three daughters and daughter-in-law, Denise Lorber (Dave) of Canton, Michigan, Diane Conley (Steve) of Overland Park, KS, Dawn Carico (Brian) of Johnston, Iowa, and Jodi Cameron of Urbandale, Iowa; his eight grandchildren, Michael Cameron (Kelli), Stephanie Andersen (Justin), Timothy Conley, Alison Dulle (Jacob), Dana Lorber, Andrea Cameron, Eric Lorber and Kate Carico; his four great-grandchildren, Tyler Cameron, Owen Andersen, Payton Andersen and Blake Cameron; his three sisters, Ora Kathleen Austin, Anne Ross (Don) and Janet Cameron; his sister-in-laws, Bev Eyerly (Gary), Janet Carlson (Ernie) and Barb Buckles; and many other supportive and loving extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Nellie Cameron, his brother, Raymond Cameron, his son, Dennis Cameron, his grandson, Cameron Carico, and his brother-in-laws, Merle Blair, Lee Austin and Ken Buckles.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Union Park United Methodist Church, the Cameron Carico +10 Foundation, the American Cancer Society , or a charity of choice . Condolences may be left at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com .
