Donna Jean Brown, Des Moines

Donna Jean Brown, 86, of Des Moines, Iowa, entered into the presence of her Savior on Monday, June 1, 2015 at Methodist Hospital with her family beside her. Donna was born on February 14, 1929 in St. Charles, Iowa to Raymond and Pauline (Miller) Travis.

Donna graduated from Lincoln High School June 6, 1946. She retired in 1994 after over 25 years of service as a secretary for the Polk County Mental Health Center. Donna was a long time member of Grace Brethren Church and her faith was a defining aspect of her life. She was a devout Christian and lived her life with a servant’s heart. Donna was a prayer warrior for her family and those in need.

Donna’s family was extremely important to her. She enjoyed traveling around the United States. She took numerous bus trips to Branson and other favorite destinations and enjoyed crafting in her spare time. She was very frugal and practical, but had an open heart and would give to anyone in need. She was a strong woman and raised her four sons on her own.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Randy Brown of Osceola and Rusty Brown (Kathy) of Centerville, OH; daughters-in-law, Linda Brown of Altoona and Chris Brown of Sebring, FL; 35 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Larry Brown and Dennis Brown; daughter-in-law, Judy Brown; and her siblings, Dean Travis and Betty Cunningham.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 4, 2015 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will begin at 9:00 a.m. Friday, June 5, also at Hamilton’s, followed by a brief committal service at St. Charles Cemetery in St. Charles, Iowa.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family for a future designation.
