Smith Thompson Rowe died January 6, 1943, at the home of his son, Donald Stever, in Adair county, after being stricken with a cerebral hemorrhage on January 2nd.

A son of pioneer parents, David and Sarah Rowe, he was born on November 19, 1870, and when a small boy came with his parents to a farm near Macksburg were he made his home with the exception of two years spent in Des Moines, until last spring when he went to Adair county.

On March 5, 1892, he was married to Ella Doty and to this union were born four children, two sons and two daughters. This wife and one daughter preceded him in death. In 1911 he was married to Bessie Stever of Adel who survives him, a son Galen E., of Denver, a daughter Blanche Pinckney, of Springfield, Missouri, Earle G. Rowe, of Chicago, one brother, Charles Rowe, of Winterset; eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild, an aged aunt, Caroling Rhodes, of Emerson, nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as a host of friends. He became a member of the M. E. church.

Rev. Englund of Lorimor conducted the funeral services at the Methodist church in Macksburg Saturday, January 6th, and interment was made in the Moon cemetery.

Smith T. Rowe, well known resident of Macksburg and Madison county, died last Wednesday, January 6th after a short illness. Mr Rowe had suffered a stroke the preceding Saturday, while he and his wife were at the Donald Steever home and death came 4 days later.

The deceased was a son of Mr. and Mrs. David G. Rowe. He was born in Davis county, Iowa, in November 1871. He came to this county with his parents in 1875, and Grand River township has since been the family home. Following the completion of his school work, he engaged in farming, and was married to Miss Ella Doty of Macksburg. They were the parents of four children; his wife, and one daughter have preceded him in death. In 1911 he was married to Mrs. Bessie Stever of Redfield. She survives him, and he also leaves two sons and a daughter: Galen Rowe of Denver, Earl Rowe of Chicago, and Mrs. Blanche Pinckney of Springfield, Mo. He also leaves one brother, Charles Rowe of Winterset.

The Rev. J.A. Englund of Lorimor conducted his funeral services at the Methodist church in Macksburg, Saturday, Jan. 9, at 2:30, and burial was in the Moon cemetery.
