William Wiley Crawford, member of a pioneer family, died in Winterset Tuesday at the age of 87 years.

Mr. Crawford was a life-long resident of this county, with the exception of about a year spent in Nebraska. He was born in Crawford township on July 28, 1856, the son of Oliver J. and Lucinda Wilkin Crawford. The township was named after his father.

His active life was spent as a farmer, most of it on the home farm north of Patterson. He was married on November 8, 1879, to Eva Maude Leonard. They were the parents of one daughter. Mrs. Crawford died a number of years ago. His nearest surviving relative is the daughter, now Mrs. Grace Ellis of Patterson.

He had been in failing health since last March when he had suffered a stroke of apoplexy. Since then he had been cared for in a nursing home in Winterset.

Funeral services will be held this Thursday from Anderson’s Funeral home, in charge of the Rev. Tom Foglesong, pastor of the Church of Christ. Burial will be made in the Montpelier cemetery.
