Russell L. Duff of Des Moines, former Earlham resident, was drowned in the Des Moines river Monday.

Mr. Duff was riding in a motorboat on the river, in a party which included his wife and four other persons. When the boat struck a floating log, he and two others were thrown into the water. The others were rescued. Mr. Duff who was a poor swimmer, was drowned. The accident occurred just south of the Euclid avenue bridge in Des Moines.

Mr. Duff is survived by his wife, the former Alma Clements of Earlham. He also leaves his mother, Mrs. Newt Duff of Earlham. They had no children.

Funeral Services for Russell Duff

Burial services were held Saturday morning at the Earlham cemetery for Mr. Russell Duff of Des Moines, who was drowned in the Des Moines river Monday, July 5th. The funeral services were conducted Saturday morning at Dunn’s funeral home in Des Moines.

Relatives and friends from out of town who attended the burial were: Dr. and Mrs. Wilson, Mrs. Belle Rogan, Ad Alexander and son Fred, Mr. and Mrs. Mac Hockenberry of Omaha, Nebraska, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Duff of Des Moines, Mr. Nelson, and Mrs. Stutzman of West Des Moines, Mrs. Stigers and Mrs. Owen of Des Moines. Mrs. Mary Duff remained here until Sunday evening with her sister, Mrs. C. T. Irvin.
