Mr. Gifford was married to Eveline Calloway on January 18, 1918 and she died December 9, 1922. He was again married to Sophie Heltkamp, April 27, 1923, and she survives him.

Besides his wife and children, Mr. Gifford is survived by two brothers and three sisters: Grant Gifford and Mrs. Chloa Gorman, of Durango, Colorado, Mrs. Anna Bradley, Van Buren, Arkansas; Mrs. Maria Easter, of Oklahoma, and Charles F. Gifford of Peru.

September 15, 1904, he was appointed rural mail carrier and he filled this position satisfactorily until he was retired on account of his age November 8, 1923. He was a member of the Masonic lodge, I.O.O.F. and M.W.A. lodge orders
