Thursday, February 27, 1947Huldah Jane Cook, daughter of Elkanah and Elizabeth Cook was born October 4, 1862 in Dallas County, Iowa.
She departed this life at the home of her daughter, Elsie, February 15, 1947 at the age of 84 years, four months, 11 days.
She taught school for three terms after which she was married to Joseph E. Kenworthy, November 19, 1885 who departed this life August 13, 1921. To this union was born two sons and two daughters. She was a loving and faithful wife and a good mother who raised her children to love and serve the Lord. She was always loyal to her friends and neighbors and always ready to help anyone in time of need. Through all of the hardships of the past eight years, since she fell and broke a hip, she was patient and appreciative of all things others did for her. Always thanking those who helped her in any way.
She was a birthright member of the Friends church to which faith she remained faithful through her life.
The family lived near Earlham, Iowa, until the spring of 1915 when they moved to the Sand Arroya community near Sugar City, Colorado, where they took up a homestead.
Besides her husband, one son, William Cecil departed this life June 9, 1940.
She leaves to mourn her passing one son, Edward Roscoe Kenworthy of Ordway, two daughters, Greta May McBride of San Diego, California, and Elsie Lois Clay of Sugar City; five grandchildren, Richard McBride of San Diego, Clarence Kenworthy of the U.S. Navy, Marie, Audrey, and Carol Kenworthy of Ordway; two great grandchildren, Kathryn and Dickie McBride of San Diego; one brother, Elza Cook of Earlham, Iowa, who is present; one sister, Eva Freer of Joplin, Missouri, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Evangelical United Brethren church in Ordway, Colorado, for Huldah J. Kenworthy who passed away suddenly of a heart attack at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ted Clay, on Saturday morning, February 15, 1947.
Rev. Robert H. Jay, pastor of the Friends church of Hasty, Colorado, and Rev. O. A. Gayley of Genoa officiated.
Miss Marie Kenworthy, granddaughter of the deceased sang “Ivory Palaces” and a quartette composed of Rex Barnett, Amy Trotter, Jeannetta Klingensmith, and Edward Gregory sang “Blessed Assurance” and “Does Jesus Care.” Mrs. William Klingensmith was accompanist.
Pallbearers were Arthur Andrew, Emmons Ringle, Ivan Klingensmith, Charles Trotter, Carl Sorensen, and Charles Henry.
She was laid to rest in the Sand Arroya cemetery by the side of her husband Josephe E. Kenworthy, who passed away August 13, 1921. Funeral was conducted by Emil J. Jonach and Harry E. Wells.
The services were attended by a large number of friends which the profusion of flowers showed the esteem and love held for Grandma Kenworthy.
