Mrs. R. B. Austin Dies at 75 Years

Mrs. R. B. Austin of Afton died Monday, Sept 13 (1965) at a Winterset nursing home. She was 75 years of age.

Mrs. Austin was the former Mattie Jean Wilson and was born near Afton on Jan. 17, 1890.
She is survived by her husband, R. B. Austin; four sons, Leonard Austin of DeSota, Forrest Austin of Afton, Ivan Austin of Lorimor and Jerry Austin of St. Charles; two daughters, Mrs. Freda Dodd of Omaha and Mrs. Eunice Harper of Lorimor; 21 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; four brothers, Homer, Harry and Leonard Wilson, all of Afton and Clarence Wilson of Kingsbury, Calif; and a sister, Mrs. R. I. Stradley of Afton.

Funeral services were held last Wednesday from the Lorimor Methodist church, conducted by the Rev. Leonard Root of St. Charles. Burial was made in the Lorimor Cemetery.

Transcriber's note: Although this printed obituary lists Mattie’s name as “Mattie Jean”, her name was Mattie "Jane” -- Martha Jane Wilson Austin. Also, she had no brother, Leonard, but had a brother,Lyman, who survived her; he died in 1973.
