Jun. 16, 1925 - Apr. 4, 2015Walter Herman Marquardt was born June 16, 1925 at home south of DeSoto in Madison County, Iowa to George and Amanda (Niendorf, Lienemann) Marquardt. He graduated from DeSoto High School in 1942. On March 15, 1947 he married Inez Nelson at the Trinity Lutheran Church south of Van Meter. They were blessed with two sons, Doyle and Darvin.
Walter was a farmer his entire life. He enjoyed and was most proud of raising purebred Black Angus cattle. He was a 4-H leader for several years for the Jefferson-Lee 4-H Club. He lived his entire life in Madison County and was a life-long member of the Trinity Lutheran Church.
Walter died Saturday, April 4, 2015, at West Bridge Care and Rehabilitation in Winterset. He was 89 years old.
Walter is survived by sons, Doyle Marquardt of Van Meter and Darvin Marquardt of Ames; grandchildren, Ryan (Janice) Marquardt of Van Meter, Amanda (Greg) Wever of Ames, and Derick Marquardt of Morrison, CO; great grandchildren, Hazel Marquardt, Zane Marquardt, Ada Wever, Quinn Wever, and Jett Wever; sister, Vera Fletcher of Earlham; nieces, Phyllis Jones of Peru and Alberta Voge of Webster City; nephew, Willis Jones of Van Meter; and many other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Inez on March 26, 2013; daughter-in-law, Janet Marquardt on February 12, 2014; and sister, Esther Lienemann.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, April 9, at Trinity Lutheran Church south of Van Meter with Pastor Kenneth Schmidt officiating. Family will receive friends 1 hour prior to service time at the church. Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the Trinity Lutheran Church.
