Italo "Tony" Magnani, age 81, of Boone, passed away at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset of pulmonary fibrosis on April 1, 2015.
A visitation will be Monday, April 6, 2015, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall in Boone. Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at Schroeder Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow the service at Sunset Memorial Gardens on Fleur Drive in Des Moines. The family will return to Boone, gathering at the V.F.W. Francis Steele Post #817, 815 Keeler Street, approximately 2:30 p.m. for a family and friends gathering.
Italo "Tony" Magnani was born in Montecreto/Modena, Italy on August 20, 1933, the son of Lucia Naque and Alfonso Magnani. The family came to America in 1938. Tony attended school in Des Moines and then joined the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Korean War. Upon returning from the service, he worked for Eagle Iron Works and General Electric and owned and operated Electro Magic of Iowa. He was the proprietor of the Jerry Lewis Twin Cinema on the south side of Des Moines. He devoted 25 years to the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad. Over the years, he owned and operated bars.
On June 16, 1961, Tony married Dorothy Berkland in Des Moines. He enjoyed spending time with his family, children, grandchildren, and his V.F.W. friends. Tony also enjoyed sports, cards, and traveling. Tony was a member of the V.F.W. Post #817, the Loyal Order of Moose, and UTU.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother Armido. He is survived by his wife Dorothy of Macksburg; two sons Chris Magnani and friend Karla Snyder of Woodward and Bill Polson III and wife Sue of Des Moines; three daughters Rhonda Dean of Macksburg, Dorothy "Dee" Smart of Olathe, Kansas, and Felecia Burkhart and husband Michael of Des Moines; 12 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and a sister Alma Magnani of Des Moines.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Rhonda Dean and Josh Magnani for their tireless love and care. Tony lived a full life---"Never say goodbye, say I'll see you."
