Abihu Wilson, a former resident of this community, but for the past twenty years a resident of Kansas, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Peter Cook, near Bear Creek, on Friday evening July 3, 1903, from a stroke of paralysis. He and his wife had arrived here about three weeks ago to spend the summer with their daughter. Mr. Wilson had been sick for some time and on Wednesday, July 1st he was stricken with paralysis and gradually sank to rest. He was a brother to Christopher Wilson and was well and favorably known among the older settlers. The funeral services were held in the Friends church on Monday morning, conducted by Rev. J. W. Stribling, assisted by Rev. E. G. Pearson, and the remains were laid to rest in Earlham cemetery.
Abihu, son of John and Lydia Wilson, was born in Marion county, Indiana, February 14, 1830. Died July 3, 1903, aged 75 years, 4 months and 17 days. He removed with his parents to Iowa in 1853. Was married to Eliza J. Ellis August 19, 1855. Six children were born to this couple, three of whom, along with the wife are living, viz: W. W. Wilson, of Admire, Kansas, G. S. Wilson of Los Angeles, California, and Mrs. Peter Cook of Earlham, Iowa. He was one of the pioneers of Iowa having come in 1853 and was among the first settlers in Madison and Dallas counties.
Many of the fine farms near Earlham are the evidence of the energy and enterprise of the Wilson family. Mr. Wilson was in his early life a member of the Friend's church. Having removed with his family to Kansas some twenty years ago, he joined the M. E. church, and he was at his death a consistent member of that denomination.
