Brief mention was made in our last issue of the death of Aunt Rachel Nicholson. In the passing away of this good woman the community has sustained an irreparable loss, and many individuals a kind friend. For several years she had been a great sufferer, and while her death was not unexpected, yet when the end finally came it was keenly felt by all.

Funeral services were held in the Friend's church on last Thursday morning, conducted by Rev. J. W. Stribling, and was attended by a great concourse of people. Interment was in Earlham cemetery.

Rachel Nicholson, daughter of Jefferson and Lydia Smith, was born in Ohio October 7, 1829, and died June 30, 1903, at the age of 73 years, 8 months and 23 days.

She moved with her parents to Henry county, Iowa when twenty years of age. She was married to James Nicholson May 2, 1865. His death occured two years ago last March. Two children blessed their home. One died in childhood and the other, Mrs. B. F. Bogue, lives at Maple Grove, Iowa.

She was converted in 1855 and has ever since exemplified in her life a true christian character, a daily trust in her savior, a zealous worker in the Friends church of which she was a lifelong member. She was an elder of the church for many years, and served on important committes that have decided momentous questions in the history of the church. She was a kind and loving wife and mother, a true friend and neighbor and will be greatly missed from the neighborhood in which she lived.
