MARY J. CREGER

Mary J. Garst was born in Roanoke county, Virginia, Sept. 30, 1840 and died at her home in Truro, Iowa, Jan. 15, 1916, aged 75 years, 3 months and 15 days.

She came with her parents to Indiana in 1847 and in 1856 moved with them to Madison county, where she resided until her death. She was united in marriage with Samuel Creger April 6, 1865 who died March 28, 1906. To this union was born one child who died in infancy.

Mrs. Creger was a devoted wife and mother, a loyal friend and a helpful neighbor. Of her we may truly say: "In her tongue was the law of kindness" and again "She stretched out her hand to the poor, yea, she reached forth her hands to the needy." Early in years, Mrs. Creger accepted Christ as her Savior and this faith was her strength during her life and in His faith she died.

One adopted daughter and three step children, two brothers and two sisters, besides other relatives and many friends, mourn the departure of this one, well beloved who made so brave a fight for her life. Loving ministration combined with professional skill, in doing all possible to arrest the dreaded disease, but her life work was done. Her spirit calmy and quietly took up its flight to its Master.

The funeral services were held from the home at 2 p.m. Sunday, Rev. S. C. Howe officiating and the remains were laid to rest in the Hartman cemetery south of Truro.
