Page 1William Lewis Allen, born Aug. 22, 1841, in Van Buren Co., Iowa and died near New Virginia, April 18, 1915.
His parents died when he was about 5 years of age and he came to Warren Co. and lived with an aunt. In 1862 enlisted 35th Mo. Vol. Inf. Co. C. He married on November 26, 1865, Miss Sarah Ogle. Two children were born, Emma E. who died December 17, 1890 and Mrs. R. T. Nicoson of New Virginia. Buried St. Charles cemetery.

William Lewis Allen was born Aug. 22, 1841, in Van Buren county, Iowa, and died near New Virginia April 18, 1915, at the age of 73 years, 7 months and 27 days. His parents died when he was about five years of age and he came to Warren county, Iowa, and lived with his aunt until a young man.
In 1862 he enlisted in the Thirty-fifth Missouri Volunteers, infantry, Co. C, and served his country for four years.
Nov. 26, 1865, he was married to Miss Sarah Ogle. To this union two children were born, Emma E. who died Dec. 17, 1890, and Mrs. R. T. Nicoson, of New Virginia.
He was converted and joined the Baptist church in 1867, and when he moved to St. Charles in 1884 he united with the Christian church, of which he has been a good, faithful member. He was a consistent Christian and one who was always a “living epistle, read and known by all men.” He was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed. He leaves to mourn his loss an aged wife, one daughter, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren, and a large host of friends.
Funeral services were held at the home of R. T. Nicoson at 9:30 Tuesday, April 20, and then the body was taken to St. Charles were services were held at the Christian church by Rev. J. A. Johnson and Rev. C. K. Corkill, after which he was laid to rest in the St. Charles cemetery.
