Death of S.W. Shearer

S.W. Shearer, who has been lying at the point of death for some time, died last Friday, September 2, of cancer of the stomach, aged 63 years. The funeral was held on Sunday, at 3 p.m., from the Christian church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. L. E. Follansbee. A large funeral procession followed the remains to the cemetery.

Simon W. Shearer was born May 2, 1835 in Westmoreland county, Pennsylvania. He removed to Iowa in 1856, and was married in Poweshiek county, this state, in 1858. He had twelve children, ten of whom are living , Of these all but three, a daughter who lives in Oregon, and two sons who live in Nebraska, were present at his funeral. He was a member of the Christian church, and of the Knights of Labor fraternity.

Obituary -

Simon W. Shearer was born in Westmoreland county, Pennsylvania, May 2, 1835, and died in Winterset, Iowa, Sept. 2, 1898, aged 63 years and four months.

He moved to Iowa in 1856, and was married in Poweshiek county, Iowa, in 1858. Twelve children blessed the union, ten of whom are living. One daughter lives in the state of Oregon and two in Nebraska. Deceased was a consistent member of the Christian church. The funeral was preached at the Christian church Sunday afternoon by Rev. Follansbee, and a large procession followed the remains of this good man to the cemetery.
