Mrs. Rachel Morris, a former Winterset resident, died Friday, June 3rd, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Nellie Gregg of Elgin, Illinois, at the age of 87 years. She was born in Sangamon county, Illinois, July 11th 1839, and was married to Eli G. Morris in 1855. Mr. Morris was a Civil war verteran and died 18 years ago.

Mrs. Morris came with her family to Winterset in 1880, where she resided until the last seven years, when because of her advanced age, she made her home with her daughters.

She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Nellie Gregg, Elgin, Illinois, Mrs. Agnes Miller, Alberta, Canada, Mrs. Kittie Hammond, Iroquois, South Dakota, Mrs. Ruth Whitney, Des Moines, and three sons, John of Reynolds, Indiana, Harley and Ben of Pierz, Minnesota. She also leaves 1 brother, James Bishop, of Denver, Colorado, a Civil war veteran, and two sisters, Mrs. E. C. Lippott, Elkhart, Illinois, and Mrs. Fannie Molsee, Yaking, Washington. She has 21 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren and 5 great, great grandchildren, making 93 in her family, besides 3 orphan children and 3 of her little brothers and sisters that she raised.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. D. J. Shenton at Tidricks funeral home, Tuesday, June 7th. E. R. Zeller, and old friend of the family gave a tribute to Mrs. Morris. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery. Mrs. Morris joined the local Methodist church forty-five years ago.
