Miss Althea A. Reed, daughter of James and Lucinda Reed, was born in Jackson county, Iowa, near Andrew, December 24th, 1860, and died May 2nd at 5:30, aged 66 years, 4 months and 8 days. Born to Godly parents, in a Christian home, she professed her faith in Jesus Christ as her Savior in early youth.

In 1868, the Reed family moved from Jackson county to Madison where the resided until moving to Nebraska twenty-five years ago. After two years in residence near Summerfield, they came to Mission Creek, Nebraska, where their home has since been made.

Miss Reed had two sisters and two brothers. One sister, just younger, died in early youth, and the other one, older, and her father and mother, have preceded her in death. Her brothers, Wilbur, of Summerfield, and Murray, of Mission Creek survive. Also the following nieces and nephews: Marjorie and Ross of Mission Creek, Mrs. Elizabeth Cunningham of Paton. Ralph, Helen, Mrs. Hattie Frazee of Summerfield, and Mrs. Mabel Barton of Corydon.

Miss Reed was well versed in her Bible and a great help in all church activities; a faithful member of the Women's Missionary society, and at different times, teacher in the Sabbath school. In her brother's home she was a devoted mother to his children ever since Marjorie was but a few weeks old.
