Henry L. Swanson, 69 died at Mason City

Henry L. Swanson, 69, retired Rock Island railroad man died at the Park hospital in Mason City, May 13. He had a fall in his yard while doing his chores on April 23 and never recovered.

Funeral services were held May 16 at the Bethel Evangelical church. Rev. H. M. Raecker officiated. Burial was in the Manley cemetery.

Mr. Swanson was born at Kellogg, Iowa October 27, 1874 and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Swanson. When a lad he moved with his family to Earlham where he finished high school. Later he attended a business college in Des Moines, where he fitted himself for his life’s work, that of a telegraph operator and station agent.

June 5, 1901 he was married to Josie Pearl Doty. To this union one son, George, was born. Mr. Swanson served the Rock Island for 48 years retiring in 1940.

Surviving are his wife, the son, daughter-in-law, two grandchildren, a brother, Charles Swanson of Stanton and two sisters, Mrs. John Benson and Mrs. Rolland McNall of Earlham.

Mr. Swanson began his railroad career in Earlham as assistant to Warren Wright.
