Lemuel S. Davis, an old resident of Winterset, died last Friday, May 27th, at his home in the northeast part of Winterset. He was seventy-seven years of age, and had been in poor health this spring.

Mr. Davis was a son of Franklin and Purina Davis and was born in Greensborough, North Carolina, April 3rd, 1850. He was married in October, 1867, to Emily Quate, who survives him. Ten children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Davis, five of whom survive: Mrs. Florence Currier of Seattle, Washington, Mrs. Mary McDaniel of Granada, Minnesota, Mrs. Nellie Ulrich of Des Moines, Mrs. Dollie Clampitt of Redwood Falls, Minnesota, and Mrs. Bessie Cord of Winterset. He also leaves 22 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Mr. Davis united with the United Brethren church over forty years ago. He was a great lover of outdoor life, and he will be remembered as an efficient trapper and hunter. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. F. Clare McCallon, at Tidrick's funeral home, Sunday afternoon at two-thirty o'clock, and burial was made in the (North) McDonald cemetery.
