Mrs. W. O. Cord died this morning, about two-thirty o'clock, after a very short illness. She had been in her usual health until about seven o'clock last evening, when she complained of not feeling well. A doctor was summoned, but she became worse, and a stroke of apoplexy caused her death, the morning of June 2nd.

The deceased was sixty-eight years of age, and had always lived in this community. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Howard, and had been married to Mr. Cord forty-nine years.

She is survived by her husband, one daughter, May, of California, and five sons, Walter of Winterset, Harry of Des Moines, Fred of Cainsville, Missouri, Ralph of Norfolk, Nebraska and John of Madison county. At noon, the funeral arrangements had not been made.

Alice Cord, daughter of Albert and Jane Howard, was born on May 1st, 1859, at Nebraska City, Nebraska, and departed this life June 2nd, 1927.

She came to Winterset with her parents as a small child and has resided here all of her life with the exception of a few years spent in Kansas.

In 1877 she was united in marriage to Oliver Cord at Winterset. To this union were born ten children: Maud Cord, who died in infancy; Walter Cord of Winterset; Harry Cord of Des Moines; May Cord Iseminger of Long Beach, California; Murl Cord, who died in infancy; Fred Cord of Cainsville, Missouri; Ralph Cord of Norfolk, Nebraska; Flossie Cord, who died in infancy; John Cord of Winterset; and Raymond, who died in infancy. Besides these children she leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, one sister, three brothers, 16 grandchildren and many friends.

She was a devoted wife and mother, thinking always of the welfare of her family.

Funeral services were held from the home Friday afternoon at 3 o’clock, conducted by Rev. D. J. Shenton. Interment was made in the Rock City cemetery.
