Joseph, son of Tressie and John Vicker was born in Madison county, Iowa, August 4, 1875. There he grew to young manhood.

He was united in marriage to Miss Effie Prevratile October 28, 1898. To this union eight children were born, Esther, Frank, Charlie, Albert, Bertha, George, Fred, and Arthur. Following their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Vicker made their home in Des Moines, and in 1899 moved to Adair county where they resided for the next nine years, moving from there to the present farm home in Adams county, northwest of Creston in 1909.

Mr. Vicker was a kind and loving husband and father, an industrious and helpful friend and neighbor, a man of high ideals and noble purposes in life, he was always sympathetic and benevolent toward the unfortunate. A man who took a great interest in his home and was loved and respected by all who knew him.

He was preceded into the Great Beyond by one daughter, Bertha who departed this life February 22, 1925 and one son Frank who passed away September 26, 1930. One sister, Mrs. George Williamson who departed this life on December 22, 1928. Mr. Vicker’s four little granddaughters also preceded their grandfather into the eternal realms.

Though still in love with life and active in keeping up the home he was suddenly stricken the morning of August 13, 1937 and passed quickly on to his eternal reward at the age of 62 years and nine days, leaving to mourn his departure, his devoted wife, one daughter, Mrs. Esther Blazak, five sons, Charles, Albert, George, Fred and Arthur Vicker all of Cromwell; one sister, Mrs. Rosa Hodina of Chicago; three brothers, Fred and Carl Victora of Earlham; and John of Orient. Six grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews, besides these many other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at the home by Rev. Z. M. Bressler. A mixed quartet composed of Mrs. Manly Hams, soprano, Miss Maxine Bartlett, alto, Harold Johnson, tenor, Charles McIlravy, bass. Mrs. Dewey Bartlett, piano, furnished the music.

The pallbearers were Frank Slezak, Joe Duben, M. N. Britten, John Foley, J. F. Vicker, and William Burich.
