Thursday, July 22, 1937The following obituary of P. B. Compton who died at Stuart Wednesday, July 7, is taken from the Stuart Herald. Mr. Compton was a brother of Bert Compton of Earlham. He was in business here at one time.
Paris B. Compton was born in Madison county, Iowa, July 30, 1858.
His parents lived on a farm near Earlham, and this is where he grew to manhood.
April 13, 1881 he was united in marriage to Clara Sandham, and to them were born four children—R. B. Compton of Buhl, Idaho; Mrs. Myrtle Kail, of Twin Falls, Idaho; George, of Stuart; and Phillip of Hastings, Nebraska.
The family have resided in and around Stuart for over 40 years, Mr. Compton being in business here.
His passing came after an illness of about eight months and the summons came early Wednesday morning, July 7th, 1937, at the approximate age of 79 years, lacking only a few days.
Mrs. Compton preceded him in death in 1921. Those left to mourn his passing are his four children, nine grandchildren, one great grandchild, three brothers, W. L. Compton, Chicago; Bert Compton, Earlham; Everett Compton, Tama; and many, many friends.
Mr. Compton will be greatly missed in our community. He has been one of our very substantial citizens.
Possessing the energy, adventurousness and independence of the Pilgrim Fathers, he was one of that famous line of pioneers who have made America.
He was a spiritual pioneer as well, of Quaker stock.
From the Christian standpoint, he fought the good fight, he kept the faith, he finished the course.
He had been a member of the Masonic lodge 53 years and a charter member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter of Stuart.
We will remember him as a faithful student of the Christian way of living.
