C. A. HODSON, FORMER RESIDENT IS DEAD

Services Held Sunday, May 23, At Home in Forest City and at Forest City M.E. Church

C. A. Hodson, 66, a local resident of some 20 years ago died at his home in Forest City, Iowa, Thursday, May 20. Services were held at the home at 1:30 and at the Forest City M.E. Church at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 23. Burial was in Madison cemetery, Forest City.

The following obituary is from the Winnebago Republican, Forest City newspaper.

Charles Andrew Hodson was born September 3, 1870, near Wilmington, Ohio, and passed away at his home near Forest City, May 20, 1937, aged 66 years, 8 months, 17 days. When a small boy he came to Dallas county, Iowa, with his parents and later to Madison county, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. He was united in marriage to Anna Mae Anderson February 26, 1901, at Van Meter, Iowa. To this union seven children were born, three sons and four daughters, Howard and Donald of Crystal Lake, Iowa; Ralph at home; Helen Gjerde, Lois Austin, who live at Crystal Lake, Hazel and Eva at home. Those with his wife survive him. Beside his immediate family he is survived by two brothers and two sisters, W. A. Hodson of Earlham, Clarence Hodson of Leland, Iowa, Mrs. Dora Sandham and Mrs. Jennie Barnett both of Spokane, Washington; four grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

He united with the Methodist church at Fairview charge, De Soto, in early manhood, and after moving to Winnebago county, twenty years ago, transferred his membership to Forest City M. E. Church and has remained a Christian to the end. He was a kind and loving husband and father. In his home he was always thinking and doing for others. Those who knew him best loved him most.

He had been in failing health for some time, but about a week before his death he became seriously ill and only lingered a short time. He will be greatly missed by his family and loved ones.

The six nephews who acted as pall-bearers were: Bruce Garrett, Kenneth Garrett, Fred Hodson, Nile Hodson, Ivan Hodson and Marion Hodson.

Relatives who attended the funeral of Chas. A. Hodson from a distance were W. A. Hodson, M. S. Garrett, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Garrett, Mr. Kenneth Garrett, Mrs. Harry McKibben, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Ramsey, all of Earlham; Mr. and Mrs. D. T. Griffith and Wanda Jean of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Gale Griffith and Junior of Clear Lake, and Mrs. F. M. Williams of Farlin, Iowa.
