Janett Deahl

Janett Deahl, 87, of Winterset formerly of Creston, passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2015, at Winterset Care Center-South, Winterset, Iowa. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at Pearson Family Funeral Service, 809 W. Montgomery St., Creston. Rev. Jim Morris will officiate. A luncheon will be held at the funeral home following the service. Interment will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at the West Linn Cemetery, in Linden, Iowa. Family will receive friends from 9:30 – 10:30 A.M., one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Per Janett’s wishes, the casket will be closed. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family which will be given to an animal shelter of their choice. On-line condolences may be left at www.pearsonfuneralhomes.com .

Janett Deahl, the daughter of William Jackson and Violet Virena (Whisler) Stout, was born on November 1, 1927 in Adaza, Iowa. Janett graduated from Linden High School as Class Secretary. She attended Beauty School in Des Moines and Simpson College. On October 28, 1949, she married Veldon Deahl in Linden, Iowa and they later divorced in 1966.

Janett lived in Afton from 1949 until 1966. She moved to Creston and lived in the same house until moving to the Care Center in Winterset six years ago. Janett began working as a seamstress from her home. She made alterations and made a few prom dresses. She later worked as a seamstress at Palm’s Clothing for about six years. Janett retired in 1985.

Janett was an active member of the Creston First United Methodist Church. She was involved in the Morning Circle and sang in the church choir for over forty years. Janett served as President, Vice-President, and Secretary of the United Methodist Women’s Organization and also served as the Missions Coordinator for the church.

Left to cherish Janett’s memory are her children: Linda (Jim) Deahl-Coy, Ferndale, MI; Randy Deahl, McCallsburg, IA; and Larry (Rebecca) Deahl, Winterset, IA; Seven Grandchildren: Dustin, Travis, Amanda, Samantha, T.J., Mason, and Hannah; Three Great-Grandchildren: Jenna, Jameson, and Madilynn; her sister, Thelma (Harold) White, Lakin, KS; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Preceding Janett in death were her parents; her sister, Jean Clark and brother-in-law, Fred Clark; and her former husband Veldon Deahl in 2001.
