Cynthia A. Dailey, 64, was born November 28, 1950, the daughter of Donald and Mary Ida Mapes in Des Moines. She passed away at Taylor House on December 30, 2014 after a courageous 5 year battle with cancer.
Cindy was raised on a farm in Earlham until moving to Des Moines to attend beauty school. She worked in different salons throughout her career until her retirement in 2011. Cindy raised her four children in Altoona.
She was an excellent cook and loved to bake. Some of her specialties were her banana bread, monster cookies and lasagna. Cindy had a sweet tooth and always kept a candy stash. She was proud to be part of her ladies group, the Gin Buckets. They enjoyed many social events together. She had a passion for music and the Christmas season. Cindy was a day care provider for many years and adored the children she cared for. She became a second mom to many and loved them all as if they were her own. Above all, Cindy treasured her family and grandchildren.
Cindy is survived by her children, Weston (Gayla) Dailey, Mitchel Dailey, Chelsea (Jarad) Logan and their boys, Kirk and Wade, and Shelby (Danny) Gruber; sisters, Mary Jo Marsh, Jane Schirm, and Judy Mapes. She was preceded in death by her parents
A memorial visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m., with family present from 6-8 p.m., on Friday, January 2, 2015, at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. A time of sharing will begin at 7:30 p.m.
