Thursday, September 18, 1924On September 12, 1924, Charles Taylor Barnett, son of David and Mary Barnett, finished his tasks and entered into his reward. At twelve years of age he was converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal Church and for seventy-six years he lived an earnest Christian life.
Charles Taylor Barnett was born January 27, 1836, near Salem, Indiana. In 1864 he came to Madison County, Iowa. On February 21, 1856, he was married to Mary J. Brooks. Six children were born into this home. Two died in infancy. The wife died on April 24, 1895 and the youngest daughter on November 21, 1923.
He was married to Rachel Barnett on May 6, 1896 and for eighteen years they walked life’s pathway together but on December 3, 1914 the wife entered into life eternal and the husband was left to travel the rest of the way alone and not alone for his Christ was his constant companion.
Long life brought him much of storm as well as the sunshine but his faith in God brought grace and strength sufficient and as he came to the close of life he came with the assurance that through the shadow of death lies the passage into life triumphant. For such God fills it with His own presence its solemn stillness is broken by tender ------ these our friend repeated over and over.
So ended the life of Charles Taylor Barnett at the home of his daughter Mrs. Eva Barnett of Earlham, Iowa, and his daughter with another daughter Mrs. Allie Chestnutwood of De Soto, Iowa, a son B. F. Barnett of Adel, Iowa, with the grandchildren and many other friends and relatives are left to miss his presence but the memory of his simple faith in God and consecrated life shall be ours through the coming years. It is well with our friend and the same trust and life will mean eternal glory for us.
