Cora Alice Compton, daughter of William and Mary Beezley, was born at Earlham Iowa, July 17, 1863, and died in Chicago, Ill. Oct. 15, 1924.

She was a birthright member of the Friends Church at Earlham, Iowa. She was married to William L. Compton December 31, 1882. In 1883 they moved from Earlham to a farm south of Stuart, where she helped build and was affiliated with Mount Vernon church. The family moved to Stuart in 1895, where Mrs. Compton joined the Congregational church and when they moved to Des Moines in 1903 she was made a member of the Friends church there.

In 1908 Mr. and Mrs. Compton moved to Chicago, where she had been affiliated with the Garfield Boulevard Methodist Church and the Auburn Park Congregational Church.

Mrs. Compton was the mother of five boys: Elliott Compton of Chicago; Harry Compton of La Porte, Ind.; Wroe Compton of Bloomfield, Iowa; Carl Compton of Marsovan, Turkey; and Lyle B. Compton of Chicago. Besides her husband and five sons she leaves to mourn her loss seven grandchildren and two sisters, May Comfort of Des Moines and Lois Willets of Los Angeles, California.

Mrs. Compton was a member of the Eastern Star order and her friends here in Stuart remember her as a lady of unusually sweet disposition, a kind and loving mother and an active worker in church and lodge (rest is missing.
