The following account of the melancholy fate of Duncan Clark is of interest locally on account of the acquaintance of the community with his family:

The body of Duncan Clark, a former Madison county man was found last October at a point about 200 miles north of Fort Yukon, Alaska. Clark formerly lived in Douglas township, this county on the farm now owned by A. L. Clopton. He was of an adventurous disposition and left the farm to make his fortune in the mining regions of Alaska, in the nineties. Returning here, he formed a partnership with S. G. Ruby who “Grub-staked” Clark in a second trip to Alaska. In February 1909, Clark with a mining companion, Joe Garrity, set out from Caro on a prospecting expedition. Last year through the direction of United States Attorney, J. J. Crossley, an investigation was ordered and in October, Clark’s body was found at a point about 200 miles north of Fort Yukon. His body was discovered by a man named Cornell, who knew Clark and the identification was further proven by papers found in his tent. The body was found about 100 feet from the tent. The absence of firearms and other valuables about the tent, supports the theory that he was murdered. Crossley has asked the authorities to hold an inquest and the result will probably be made known in the future.

Clark is survived by a wife and family, who are living in Des Moines; also by a brother, Ben Clark, who lives in Jefferson twp., this county.---Winterset Madisonian
